My name is Liza, I’m 26 years old and I live in New Jersey Southern California. I never really enjoyed food or cooking until I moved away from home and had to start fending for myself in college.
There, I discovered the joys of gourmet food (hello, NYC!) as well as the beauty of home-cooked meals
(hello, college student on a budget!). Fortunately, I learned to balance both worlds, and the recipes I make can include both simple ingredients I have laying around in the pantry, or a complicated fancy pants dessert.
I wish I had a more organized approach to this blog — like only focusing on desserts or simple weeknight recipes, but the truth is that I’m all over the place with my cooking and I want to share my kitchen adventures with you. For the most part, I like to focus on healthy and whole foods. I avoid pre-packaged and processed foods like the plague. You will always find fresh veggies and herbs in my fridge, and an arsenal of spices and vinegars in my pantry.
Usually, I find that homemade foods are tastier and healthier than the mixes and frozen stuff from the store (not to mention all those preservatives and artificial flavors!). For example, I mix my own taco seasoning, cajun spice, and curry powder. I’ve pickled things and even made my own butter! I’ve found that simple preparation of good, natural ingredients provides me with the healthiest and best-tasting food I’ve ever had. And I try to share that on this blog.
Up until 2010, I lived with my parents in New Jersey and used them as my recipe testers. Now, I live with my partner and make weeknight dinners for the two of us. It’s because of him that I now eat and cook beef and I’m glad he’s expanding my food horizons.
I hope you enjoy the site and make one of my recipes in your kitchen. Feel free to leave any questions in the comments.

/ January 9, 2012Hey Liz, Can you please give me the nutrition facts for your beef mock tenders recipe. I made it today and it was wonderful, but I don’t know what to write in my daily food diary. Thanks
Shirley

/ January 9, 2012Hi Shirley, first off, I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe! However, I have to apologize, but I don’t usually calculate nutrition facts for myself. Have you ever tried a website like http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php or http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp? Hope these work for you!
